Common Questions

Teams

  • What’s the difference between Contributors and Viewers?

With a Teams subscription, you can give members of your team one of two roles — Contributor or Viewer:

    • Contributors can use the Mac app (by signing in with their Sketch account details) and save their designs to your shared team workspace on Cloud. Your subscription cost is based on the number of Contributor seats you have in your team’s workspace. Contributors are often designers, but you’ll need to assign this role to anyone who needs to use the Mac app to create and edit Sketch files.
    • Viewers can log in to your shared team workspace to view designs, inspect them, and comment on them in the browser. You can add unlimited Viewers to your team for free. This role is ideal for people like project managers, developers and anyone else who doesn’t need to open and edit Sketch files in the Mac app.

It’s worth noting that you can change roles for any member of your team at any time.

  • How do Contributor seats work?

Contributor seats allow you to create open spots in your workspace that you can add, remove and assign Contributors to at a time that suits you. Read our full article to get all the details.

  • How is Teams different from Volume Licensing?

Volume licensing comes with similar benefits to personal licenses, along with a discount based on the number of licenses you are purchasing.

A Teams subscription takes things a step further, with the following benefits:

    • The option to pay on a monthly basis.
    • Only pay for team members who need access to the Mac app (Contributors).
    • Free access for unlimited Viewers to view, inspect and comment on designs in the browser.
    • Mac app access and regular updates for all Contributors.
    • Contributors can use the Mac app with multiple devices (fair usage policy applies).
    • A shared Cloud workspace where everyone in your team, including free viewers, can see documents and projects automatically (no need to share with individual collaborators).
    • Simple, centralized team management: easily add Contributors and Viewers, or switch roles, at any time.

Note: We’ll always charge for one Contributor so long as your team is active, even if no-one in your team uses the role.

Licenses

  • What happens if I don’t renew my license?

If you don’t want to renew your license after it expires:

    • You can continue to use the version of the Mac app you have for as long as you want, but you won’t be able to receive any further updates.
    • You can continue saving files locally on your computer, but you won’t be able to save documents to Cloud. You’ll still be able to view, inspect, comment on and download existing Cloud documents from the browser.

If you decide you want to renew at a later date, that’s fine — you’re welcome back at any time and renew at the reduced renewal rate.

Please note that renewals only apply to personal and volume licenses. For Teams subscriptions, access/updates to the Mac app and saving to Cloud are included as long as your subscription is active.

  • Can I add more devices to my license later?

If you’ve bought a personal or volume license from us directly, you can add more devices to your license key through our store. You’ll also get a volume discount based on how many devices you need to add. For education licenses, please send a request via our education store.

For Teams subscriptions, you can add Contributors (who get access to the Mac app) to your team at any time via the settings page.

Using Sketch

  • Will Sketch work on my computer?

The Mac app (version 70.3) requires macOS Mojave (10.14.4) or newer, as well as working Internet connection (for installation and updates).

If you are running an older version of macOS, you will can download older versions of the Mac app our Updates page. To update your version of macOS, follow the instructions on Apple’s website.

For complex documents with a large number of Pages or hundreds of Artboards, a powerful Mac with more memory will definitely improve performance. If you’re unsure about compatibility, you can download a 30-day free trial to test out Sketch before you make a purchase.

Cloud supports the most recent versions of Chrome, Firefox, Safari and Edge, as well as IE11. You will need a good internet connection for viewing documents, playing prototypes and using Cloud Inspector.

  • Do I need to save all my documents to Cloud?

No. You will always be able to choose where to save your documents — to a Cloud workspace or locally on your Mac.

  • Can I install the Mac app on multiple computers?

For personal licenses, you can use the Mac app on one device only. To use it on multiple devices, you’ll need to add more devices to your license.

If you are an organization with multiple people using Sketch, you can either sign up for a Teams subscription or purchase a legacy volume license.

If you have a new device and want to use an existing license with it, you’ll need to unlink the Mac app from your old device first. To do this, open the Mac app’s preferences on your old device, and choose Unlink Device under the Account tab.

For Teams subscriptions, each Contributor you pay for can register and use the Mac app with their Sketch account details.

Contributors can register and use the Mac app more than one device with the same Sketch account details (for example, on both a personal and work Mac). This is subject to a fair use policy which looks at how many different Macs use the same Sketch account details at the same time.

Purchasing

  • What payment methods do you accept?

For personal and volume licenses, our payment partner FastSpring handles both new licenses and renewals. Through them, we accept Credit/Debit card, Wire/Bank transfer, PayPal, and Sofort.

For Teams subscriptions, we only currently accept Credit/Debit card payment (handled by Stripe). Other payment methods (such as invoice and bank transfer) are on our roadmap and coming soon.

  • How can I get a quote or purchase order?

For personal and volume licenses, you can create a purchase order via our payment page. Simply follow the instructions to place your order and select the ‘Purchase Order’ payment option during checkout. You won’t be charged.

After that, you will receive a payment link and invoice to submit your payment and complete your purchase. Once we have received your payment in full, you will receive a receipt and license details via email.

Please note: We cannot accept a Purchase Order document as pre-payment.

For Teams subscriptions, we cannot accept payments with Purchase Orders at this time, but it is on our roadmap and will be available soon!

  • I need an invoice, where can I request it?

For personal and volume licenses, you will receive an invoice via email with your purchase. If you need a new copy, you can download one using the License Manager.

For Teams subscriptions, you will receive an invoice via email any time you make a payment. To view and download copies of any invoice related to your subscription, head to your team’s settings page on Cloud and click on the Billing tab. You’ll find a full history of invoices under the Billing History section.
