Last Thursday, the Sketch team headed to Spaces at the beautiful and historic ‘Red Elephant’, in The Hague to eat, drink and talk shop with the local design community. We hosted an intimate meetup, where Sketch founder Pieter Omvlee showed off some of the awesome features coming up in Sketch 52, and attendees got to demo an early version of our next release.

Guests got hands on experience with new features like Data and nested boolean operations, as well as a preview of Dark Mode, one of our most anticipated updates yet. Thank you to everyone who came along and stuck around to talk afterwards. We had some great discussions and heard some brilliant suggestions for future versions of Sketch!

If you’re feeling left out, we’ve got a couple more official Sketch meetups coming up in the next few months and we’d love to see you there. The team will be at Talent Garden in Rome on the 18th of October and we’re hosting another design meetup after Dibi Conference on the 12th November in Edinburgh. We’ll have more info on the Rome Meetup soon but you can register for the Edinburgh event now!

Workshop: Creating a Design System in Sketch

The following day Roy van Rooijen (Design Tools Network) and Javier Cuello (Nomadic Designer) ran a full day workshop focussing on building design systems and speeding up your workflow in Sketch. Attendees learned how to build a strong foundation for their own design projects, and how to use Sketch Runner and other plugins to streamline their design process.

If you want to learn more about Sketch plugins and have a chance to build your own, Roy van Rooijen and the Design Tools Network are hosting a hackathon, sponsored by Sketch in Tel Aviv on 25th-26th October. You can find out more and apply on the Hackathon website.

You can find out more about Sketch Meetups and workshops around the world on our Community page.
