What are the differences between a legacy (SK3) license and a subscription?
We offer two ways to purchase Sketch — with legacy (SK3) license keys or a Teams subscription — and there are a few key differences between these that you need to know about.
Legacy (SK3) license keys
How do I purchase license keys?
You can purchase legacy (SK3) license keys through our store. When you do this, we’ll email you a license key that begins with SK3
and you can use this to register your copy of the Mac app. You can purchase multiple license keys with the same email address with volume discounts or add seats to your license key (if you have multiple computers, or multiple people using the same license key).
When your license key expires, you can carry on using the version of Sketch you currently have for as long as you like. You’ll no longer receive updates to the Mac app and you won’t be able to upload documents to Cloud any more. If you want to renew your license (for app updates and uploading to Cloud) you can do so at any time.
What does a license key give me?
Your license key gives you a year’s worth of Mac app updates and a year of uploading to our Cloud platform. To upload and share documents with our Cloud platform, you’ll need to sign up for a free Sketch account. You do not have to use the same email address you gave us when you purchased your license key for this. So long as your license is active, you’ll be able to sign in to Cloud in the Mac app’s preferences and upload documents.
How do I manage my license(s)?
You can add seats to your license or renew it via our store. To find a lost license key, unlink devices from a license, view your invoices and view general information about your license key(s), you can use our license manager. To access the license manager, you’ll need the email address associated with your license key.
Teams subscriptions
How do I purchase a Teams subscription?
To purchase a Teams subscription, you’ll need to sign up for a free Sketch Account, and create a new workspace for your team. Every teams subscription comes with a 30-day free trial. If you cancel your subscription before the end of the trial we will not charge you. Unlike license keys, you can choose whether to pay for your Teams subscription on a monthly or annual basis.
The cost of your Teams subscriptions depends on the number of seats you need for people in your team who need to open Sketch documents in the Mac app. We call these people Contributors. You can add or remove Contributors and Contributor seats at any time. Learn more about Contributor seats.
What does a Teams subscription give me?
Your Teams subscription includes access to the Mac app for all Contributors, so you don’t need to pay for a legacy (SK3) license key as well. Teams subscriptions also come with a shared Cloud workspace, where you can save documents and easily collaborate on projects with other team members. You can find out more about what’s on offer at sketch.com/for-teams.
How do I manage my Teams subscription?
To manage your Teams subscription, you’ll need to sign in to Cloud with your Sketch account details and head to your team’s settings page. Here you can upgrade, add or remove team members, access invoices, change billing details, cancel your subscription, and delete your team’s workspace.
